Xfinity Home Security Services Review

Xfinity is the brand name for Comcast’s home security services. Comcast is best known for cable TV, internet and phone services. How do they measure up in the home security department?
Updated Feb 4, 2021

Heads up!

Professional installation for Xfinity is unavailable at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

An Overview of Xfinity Home Security Services

Xfinity (owned by Comcast) offers home security equipment, installation and monitoring to residents in certain states in the U.S. Choose from a pre-existing equipment package or hand-pick only what you want. If you can’t afford to pay for it all in one go, Xfinity also offers a convenient payment plan. Bundle your monthly monitoring services with Xfinity internet, TV or phone for additional savings.

In this Xfinity home security services review, you’ll discover which third-party brands offer equipment compatible with the Xfinity home system. However, Xfinity’s own equipment is not “smart,” which may be a major drawback for those wanting a more interactive and customized system or a DIY approach.

Xfinity: Our Pick for Best Bundled Value

If you’re looking for simplicity when it comes to all your important home services, Xfinity is a great choice. Xfinity reviews name bundling as one of the best reasons to go with Comcast for home security. You can bundle home security, internet, cable TV and phone services into a single bill and provider, with the peace of mind knowing it will all work effortlessly together.

  • Three hardware packages are priced between $360 and $600 and can be paid off in monthly installments over the two-year contract term, which amounts to $15 to $25 per month.
  • Monthly monitoring is competitively priced the first year at $29.99 per month. But after the first year, monitoring goes up to $39.99.

You’ll have to invest in the hardware for your home. And home security hardware adds up. Luckily, Comcast allows customers to pay their security system equipment off over two years, which only adds between $15 and $25 per month to your monthly bill. The monthly monitoring fee is average the first year but jumps up $10 per month in the second year. It does include smoke detector monitoring for compatible smoke detectors, which some monitoring services charge an extra monthly fee to monitor.

  • Bundle your home services for simplicity and the best deal.
  • Easy integration between all services.

According to Xfinity home security reviews, the best deal comes when you bundle all your favorite home services in one. We built a bundle featuring BLAST! Internet with speeds of 200 Mbps, the EXTRA cable HD cable TV package with 125+ channels, Xfinity Voice with unlimited calling nationwide and Xfinity Home Security Plus home monitoring including 24/7 video recording for $120 per month for two years. A home security system needs to connect to your phone and internet to work properly with the monitoring service. Having internet, phone and security through the same provider ensures your system will work effortlessly.

  • Xfinity Home app for your smartphone
  • Touchscreen controller hub
  • Three door/window sensors
  • One pet-friendly motion sensor
  • Battery and cellular system backup
  • Security yard sign

Xfinity offers three equipment packages that save you the guesswork of putting together a comprehensive home security system. Their equipment packages are:

Base Home System – $360 or $15 per month for 24 months

Xfinity reviews comment that the entry-level package has everything you need to get started. You can add other accessories to expand your system later. Designed for a smaller home or apartment, the Base Home System includes the Xfinity touchscreen control panel, sensors, battery and cellular backup, and a yard sign.

Complete Home System – $480 or $20 per month for 24 months

Built for a larger home, the package comes with more sensors and a keypad that can be installed in a garage or other area away from the touchscreen hub. The Complete Home System comes with everything in the Base Home System plus additional sensors, a wireless keypad, and an HD indoor/outdoor camera.

Ultimate Home System – $600 or $25 per month for 24 months

Xfinity’s top package adds a second camera for monitoring indoors and out, as well as more door and window sensors to cover more areas in a large home. Included with this package is everything from the Complete Home System plus additional sensors and a second HD indoor/outdoor camera.

Xfinity monitoring services come with free smoke detector monitoring. You’ll need to add a smoke detector for $70 since it’s not included in any of the three packages. Besides Xfinity’s equipment, some of the top brands that are compatible include August door locks, Chamberlain garage door openers, ecobee thermostats, GE lighting automation, Kwikset smart door locks, Philips/HUE lighting, and Tile locators.

  • Home consultation available.
  • Professional installation and walk-through of services.

Scheduling a home consultation with an Xfinity pro is worthwhile. They’ll create a home assessment complete with system recommendations. The pro will even be able to tell you if existing security equipment will work with theirs, potentially saving you money on having to buy new equipment. Professional installation is required and according to costs a minimum of $99.99. Some Xfinity home security reviews by customers say they were able to negotiate a free installation. The installation takes about an hour and the tech pro will walk you through your system and how to use it. Look out for when the tech arrives – if they don’t come within two hours of your appointment time, you’ll get a $20 credit on the installation.

  • 30 day trial period.
  • Money-back guarantee.

Xfinity has a 30 day money-back guarantee. If you don’t like the service in the 30-day trial, you can cancel it and get a refund for up to $500 in payments you’ve made, regardless of the reason. To make the most of this benefit, don’t pay for equipment upfront if you choose a package of equipment worth over $500. Opt for the monthly installment equipment plan if you have any doubt you may want to ask for your money back.

  • Multiple ways to reach company representatives online
  • Satellite location available

According to recent Xfinity home security services reviews on the Better Business Bureau, the customer service provided by Xfinity and Comcast is generally prompt and professional, with company representatives working hard to resolve issues. Their website makes it easy to find answers to common questions from the knowledge base, customer service representatives or fellow Xfinity home security users. Xfinity even has its own sub-Reddit where you can read Xfinity home services reviews, and the company welcomes you to message them directly on Twitter if you prefer. For a more personal approach, visit a satellite location or call 1-800-XFINITY.

How We Based Our Provider Ratings

Xfinity represents an excellent option for homeowners who want a professional experience from start to finish. Xfinity’s home security equipment costs are comparatively low, but the monthly professional monitoring cost is on the expensive side. The option to bundle home security services with internet, phone or TV service is unique and might save you money. The only major fault we can find in our Xfinity home security services review is a lack of innovative technology. If you want a large catalog of smart equipment to choose from, you may want to consider a DIY home security option.
