Protect Your Home’s Exterior With the Wyze Cam Outdoor
Building on the popularity of the Wyze Cam v2, the company has released an outdoor camera so you can monitor the exterior of your home as well.
The Wyze Cam Outdoor resembles the v2 but comes in an IP65 water-resistant enclosure, so it’s protected in most weather conditions. We take a closer look at some of the best features this outdoor camera has to offer, as well as installation, how to use it, and more.
How to Install the Wyze Cam Outdoor
When you purchase the Wyze Cam Outdoor, you’ll have the essentials for building your own outdoor camera layout. The kit comes with one camera, a base station, a power adapter, an ethernet cable, a charging cable, screws, and a manual.
To start installing the camera, first consider the area of your home you’d like to monitor. Ideally, the camera should be placed between 7 and 10 feet off of the ground. You can mount the camera on a wall or ceiling.
Setting up the camera and Wyze app
First, set the base station on a level surface in your home near the router, and then plug in the power cable. Next, plug in the ethernet cable from the router to the base station.
Download the Wyze app on your mobile device (the app works with iOS and Android devices). Once installed, set up your account and proceed to add the camera as a new device. Pair the camera to the base station, and once that’s done, you can mount the camera.
Mounting the camera
Outdoors, you’ll want to avoid installing the camera in areas where there’s a lot of traffic, direct sunlight, and thick vegetation to prevent false alerts.
For mounting, take a screw and partially drill it into the wall or ceiling. Slide the base of the camera onto the screw, and lock it into place before tightening the screw. Now you can add the camera back to its base, and it’ll be ready for use.

How to Use the Wyze Cam Outdoor
Get activity alerts whenever motion is sensed near the camera. PIR motion detection enables the camera to capture video whenever it detects heat, such as when pets and humans are nearby. You can view a 12-second video through the app and save it to the cloud for up to 14 days.
For deliveries or service professionals, use two-way audio to check in and say hello or provide additional directions, such as where to leave a package. Record and watch time-lapse videos so you can see what’s happened over the course of a day. You can also adjust additional settings in the app and add other Wyze products to flesh out your own smart home.
How Much Does the Wyze Cam Outdoor Cost?
You can purchase the Wyze Cam Outdoor Starter Bundle for $58.55 on Amazon. This starter kit is comparably cheaper than what you could expect to pay for other camera systems, making it a solid option for those just starting to explore home security. Additionally, if you ever want to expand your outdoor camera system, you can add up to three more cameras.
Is the Wyze Outdoor Camera Worth It?
Ultimately, we believe this Wyze outdoor camera is a good investment if you’re looking for home video surveillance but want to avoid a hefty upfront cost and monthly fees. Wyze makes it easy to access essential features like motion detection, activity notifications, a live camera feed, video clips, HD video, and more. While there are a few noticeable snags, such as the cooldown period after recording and video clips versus continuous recording, we think you’re getting a good deal for the basics. All in all, if you’re ready to dip your toes into home video surveillance, starting with Wyze isn’t a bad idea.

No, you do not have to pay a monthly fee. Cloud storage is free, and your recordings will be saved for up to 14 days. You can also save your videos locally to a micro SD.
The most significant difference between the two is that the Wyze Cam v2 is not IP65-rated for water resistance. It’s intended for indoor use. Another difference is that the Wyze Cam Outdoor can be used without being connected to any wiring, giving you more freedom with placement than the Wyze Cam v2.
The Wyze Cam Outdoor offers many of the features you’ll find in most outdoor cameras like night vision, HD video, two-way audio, motion detection, video clips, alerts, and water resistance. One feature that it lacks, however, is continuous recording. You’ll find this feature with brands like Arlo and Nest, but often this feature comes as part of a subscription.
