How to Install Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2

  2. Connect the power kit that comes with your doorbell to the chime inside your circuit breaker.
  3. At your existing doorbell, you’ll need to disconnect the button.
  4. Next, take the doorbell wires and connect them to the back of your Video Doorbell Pro 2.
  5. Set your Ring doorbell in place and attach the faceplate.
  6. Now, turn the power back on at your circuit breaker and use the Ring app to finish the setup.

How Does the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 Work?

Once you’ve installed the doorbell camera, it’s time to try it out. Using your phone, you can look at a live video feed and check notifications. A few new unique features that Ring has added to this doorbell are 3D Motion Detection and Bird’s Eye View. The 3D Motion Detection feature uses radar technology to help determine where someone is on your property. This is done by sending out radio waves that bounce back to the sensor, allowing it to read distance.

If you enable 3D Motion Detection, you can also use the Bird’s Eye View feature, allowing you to map out a person’s direction without the need for a second camera. Instead, Ring uses an overhead map that can show you an individual’s direction with the help of 3D Motion Detection.

Another great perk this doorbell camera offers is a larger field of vision, allowing you to see more vertically rather than mostly horizontally. This means you’ll have a better chance of seeing someone from head to toe and where your package is placed. With a Ring Protect Plan, access additional features for this doorbell camera like storage, sharing, and photo previews for notifications.

How Much Does the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 Cost?

The Ring Doorbell Pro 2 costs $249.99. That is a hefty jump from the Ring’s Wired Doorbell, but the features are bound to make the price worth it. Essentially, if you’re looking for better quality and more features in a video doorbell, then this one could be worth its weight.

With a Nest Aware subscription, access additional features like person detection and continuous recording.

    Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro

    Our rating

    Our take

If you’re looking for a doorbell camera that deters thieves and protects your packages, the Vivint Video Doorbell Pro is it. The Smart Deter feature sends an instant alert when you get a package. And if someone’s lurking, the doorbell camera will sound an alarm and shine a light to deter them.

    • The 180-degree field of view gives you a full view of visitors from your smartphone using the Vivint app.
    • Customizable motion zones to get alerts for specific areas of your porch and yard.
    • 90-second motion-triggered clips instead of 20-30 seconds clips that other doorbell cameras offer. Continuous video recording is also available.

    Stand-out features include

    • LED light and 65 dB speaker to deter thieves using the Smart Deter feature.
    • Optional continuous video recording and 90-second motion-triggered clips.
    • Two-way audio to see and speak to guests using the Vivint app.
  • SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro

    Our rating

    Our take

The SimpliSafe Pro Video Doorbell features 1080p HD video and provides a 162° field of vision. The dual-sensor allows the doorbell to provide alerts for activities that matter most, such as when someone’s at your door. The SimpliSafe Pro Video Doorbell can be set up to work with older and newer homes with an existing doorbell. If you own the SimpliSafe home security system with Interactive Monitoring, the video doorbell would be a great addition. It connects to all the sensors and starts recording as soon as activity is detected. The video doorbell retails for $169.

    Stand-out features include

    • 1080p HD resolution
    • 162° field of vision
    • Smart motion detection

Is the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 Worth It?

We think the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is worth investing in if you want additional features beyond what you’ll find with most doorbell cameras. So, if the new features like a larger field of view, 3D Motion Detection, and a Bird’s Eye View of the area around your home would be more advantageous to you, then we’d say this doorbell is a good investment. Plus, adding on the Ring Protect Plus Plan would give you access to continuous recording, so you can playback video over time rather than only viewing clips or a live feed. While this camera is expensive, buyers get some cutting-edge features that aren’t available in other doorbells.
