Frontpoint Home Security Camera Overview

Frontpoint Security provides home security systems with do-it-yourself (DIY) installation and month-to-month contracts. It offers customizable equipment packages with all the wireless intrusion detection and environmental protection options you’d expect from a top home security company.

But if you’re like many shoppers, security cameras are at the top of your list. Here, we take a look at Frontpoint’s cameras, explain their specifications, and outline how they work with a complete Frontpoint security system.

Frontpoint Indoor Camera

Frontpoint’s indoor camera is designed for a variety of viewing resolutions, so you’ll see a clear picture of what’s in view whether you’re on a phone, tablet or computer. You’ll get a 113-degree view to see a near-perfect view of any room, as long as the camera is placed close to the wall. The camera has built-in motion detection, which is also adjustable according to sensitivity and threshold.

Choosing the Frontpoint indoor camera will give you extra protection in your home while maintaining your privacy. The camera stores all footage through wireless encryption, so it’s only for your eyes. In the case of an emergency, or if you need to communicate while you’re on the go, the camera has built-in two-way communication. You can speak directly through a smartphone and hear back from anyone in the range of the camera.

Frontpoint Premium Indoor Camera

The premium indoor camera differs from the regular indoor camera with a series of upgraded features. The camera has a full 180-degree view range, which gives you complete access to securing any room. It also has built-in Bluetooth speakers and an echo-canceling microphone for enhanced two-way communication. One of the best features is its ability to pan and tilt so that you can see in even the most hidden parts of the room.

This camera gives you enhanced communication and visibility. In an emergency, you’ll be well-connected to your household and given a clear view of what’s going on inside the house.

Frontpoint Outdoor Camera

If you’re looking for home security, an outdoor camera is always a great buy. The Frontpoint Outdoor Camera is designed for easy installation and multiple viewing resolutions, so you can plug it in and immediately view on any device. To last long outdoors, it’s built to withstand rain, heat, cold, and dust. With the outdoor camera, you’ll also get an 117-degree view range, though this is all horizontal and the camera doesn’t tilt up or down.

With an outdoor camera, you can see everyone who comes onto your property. Even if you haven’t had a break-in, you may need to see if something has been stolen off of your porch or someone is lurking. Even just having a camera outside can deter unwanted solicitors or break-ins.

Frontpoint Doorbell Camera

Visitors at your door – whether they ring the doorbell or not – are monitored through the Frontpoint Doorbell Camera. When someone comes up to the door, the camera will come on through motion detection within an eight-foot range. You can also choose to receive a notification on your phone so you’ll know if a package is delivered or someone is at your door while you’re away.

A doorbell camera can help you feel safe, especially at night. The camera uses infrared vision once the sun sets, as well as two-way communication so you can communicate with whoever’s at your door.

Frontpoint Camera Features

Video Resolution

The video resolution determines the overall quality of your footage, whether you’re streaming it or playing it back. Many of Frontpoint’s cameras have a variety of resolution options so you can choose how clear you need the picture to be or how quickly you need it to download. See below for the resolution recording options for each camera.

  • Frontpoint Indoor: 1920x1080, 1280x800, 640x400, 320x200, 176x144
  • Frontpoint Indoor Premium: 1920x1080
  • Frontpoint Outdoor: 1920x1080
  • Frontpoint Doorbell: 1280x720

Field of View

The field of view determines how much you’ll see in relation to the camera. All of Frontpoint’s cameras have a field of view beyond 100-degrees, and some have the capability to view vertical as well as horizontal.

  • Frontpoint Indoor: 113° horizontal
  • Frontpoint Indoor Premium: 180° horizontal and vertical
  • Frontpoint Outdoor: 117° horizontal
  • Frontpoint Doorbell: 180° horizontal

Distance of View

The distance of view will tell you how far the camera can see and record while the image is still in good quality. This metric only applies to the outdoor camera, since the indoor cameras are designed to capture everything within their field of view inside the average home. The Frontpoint Outdoor Camera will capture up to 40-feet in range.

Both the outdoor and doorbell cameras are built to be weatherproof so they can last as long as you need them. The outdoor camera works in temperatures ranging from -4° F up to 133° F. The doorbell camera has a weatherproof range of -40° F up to 122° F. It’s safe to say that the camera will be fine in most climates. If you do experience extreme weather, you can easily unplug the camera and bring it inside for the time being.

Wireless Encryption

All of Frontpoint’s cameras include wireless encryption, which means your footage is hack-proof and only viewable for your eyes. This feature is especially helpful for customers with indoor cameras who need to keep private moments safe and secure.

Motion Detection

Each of Frontpoint’s security cameras come with motion detection, though they turn on at different ranges and vary in terms of how much you can customize their detection.

  • Frontpoint Indoor: Adjustable detection
  • Frontpoint Indoor Premium: 3 windows of detection with adjustable sensitivity and threshold
  • Frontpoint Outdoor: 3 windows of detection with adjustable sensitivity and threshold
  • Frontpoint Doorbell: Has an eight-foot range of motion detection

How Does the Frontpoint Mobile App Work with My Cameras?

If your Frontpoint Security system includes a camera, you will have to pay for a higher-tier monitoring service in order to access all video features on the mobile app. The Ultimate Monitoring plan costs $49.99 per month.

Once you opt in, you can use the app to view live streaming footage from your camera(s), video and image history, motion triggered alerts and other remote camera controls. If your camera has a two-way talk feature, you can also use your phone to speak directly with visitors through the camera.

Which Frontpoint Security Packages Include Cameras?

Only one of Frontpoint’s five pre-selected equipment bundles includes a camera. The Preferred Package, which starts at $479.90, includes the base model indoor camera with a well-rounded selection of other Frontpoint equipment. You can always add a camera of your choice to any Frontpoint system. Cameras range from $99.99-$199.99 each.

Frontpoint cameras are not currently available as standalone devices. Accessing camera features requires a paid monitoring plan. Since Frontpoint offers a 30-day no-risk free trial and a price lock guarantee without a long-term commitment, you have relatively little to lose.

Is Frontpoint a Good Choice for A Home Security System with Cameras?

Frontpoint’s cameras should be capable of performing the basic video surveillance that most families are looking for. Frontpoint is certainly a competitive choice for people on the hunt for a self-installed, professionally monitored security system that includes cameras.

However, if you’re looking for standalone cameras or the sleekest, most state-of-the-art models, you will probably be better served by a technology-focused company such as Ring or Lorex. We suggest comparing the best home security cameras to start your search.
