Brinks Home Security recently announced its new Chief Commercial Officer, Kelly Atkinson, according to GlobeNewswire. Atkinson joins Brinks from Charter Communications, having held previous leadership roles with other communications companies. She will join the team in her new role on March 1, 2021.

This news continues a year of changes for Brinks, with the home security leader acquiring approximately 114,000 monitoring agreements from Protect America in June 2020 (GlobeNewswire). In July 2020, Protect America customer accounts were transferred to Brinks as the company promised customers that their monitoring service would continue uninterrupted. Later in December 2020, Brinks Home Security acquired about 38,000 alarm monitoring contracts from Select Security, both residential and commercial, resulting in about $2 million in monthly revenue (GlobeNewswire). The home security provider is clearly expanding its footprint in the industry’s space.

Brinks has also expanded its horizon by reaching a new agreement with its biggest authorized dealer, Skyline Security this past January. Skyline has a large door-to-door salesforce for home security solutions and has agreed on a new long-term contract with Brinks.

One additional move Brinks made this year was deregistering its common stock. The company decided to deregister the stock “because it [believed] that its public company reporting requirements do not provide a discernible benefit to the Company and is not in the best long-term interest of its shareholders.” As a result, Brinks stock may not be available for public trading. While this change doesn’t affect Brinks customers directly, it is yet another significant move by the company, signaling that Brinks is actively shaking up its operations.

Brinks was awarded “#1 in Customer Satisfaction with Pro-Installed Home Security Systems” by J.D. Power in 2018 and 2019. Consumers looking for DIY home security solutions will be pleased to find that Brinks has a selection of packages to choose from with professional monitoring, and customers can get professional installation if needed. We’ll continue to monitor for updates and report on any new developments with Brinks Home Security.
