    Winner: August

With August, the starting price for its original smart lock is lower than what you’ll find with Schlage smart locks. The original August Smart Lock currently costs around $160. Schlage’s Connected Keypads currently cost around $190. Although there’s about a $30 gap between these two brands, you’ll find good value for a little less with August.

The Best Smart Lock: Schlage

While August is well-known for its smart lock lineup, Schlage actually has the edge. Schlage offers up several different door lock styles you can choose from — you can get a smart lock with deadbolt, keypad, or door handle. Schlage also provides better warranty terms and includes a built-in alarm for several smart locks: the Encode™, Sense™, and Connect™. While both brands provide features like key or keyless entry, mobile app access, and home automation capabilities, we find Schlage stands out as the overall winner.
