ADT Outdoor Security Camera
The ADT Outdoor Security Camera features an IP66 weather resistance rating and can withstand humidity, rain and snow in temperatures as low as -40 F. The device has a built-in heater, which activates when temperatures dip below 42 F. Measuring 3.9 inches X 5.3 inches X 7.3 inches, you can easily conceal the camera on the eave of your house. The camera comes with an AC power cable for hardwiring and a DC power adapter, which holds a 12V battery for emergency backup.
The camera includes a mounting bracket and features motion detection and infrared night vision technology, which can capture subjects up to six meters away and detect human body heat using its passive infrared sensor. It has a 95° field of view and records high definition footage at 720p, using H.264 or MJPEG video compression. With the ADT mobile app, you can set the camera to send alerts when someone opens a door or when it detects motion. Accessing the app’s video interface, you can view live video or recorded footage.
The ADT indoor Pulse camera features 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity and has a built-in CPU. ADT designed the outdoor camera for hardwire or wireless network connections. With built-in WPS technology, you can connect the Pulse to your wireless network with the push of a button. Install one outdoor Pulse camera for standalone video monitoring or connect several units for a multi-camera network. As with the ADT Video Doorbell Camera, you can see live streams and view recorded video from the outdoor camera using the ADT Control App.
The ADT Indoor Security Camera includes many of the same features as the outdoor Pulse camera such as 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity and WPS setup. The camera also allows you to choose between hardwired or wireless network integration. When connected to a wireless network, the indoor Pulse camera will automatically reconnect following an internet service outage.
The camera is motion activated and captures high definition 720p video, up to a resolution of 1280×720. With the ADT app, you can set the indoor camera to send immediate alerts to your smartphone and view live streams and recorded footage.
The indoor Pulse camera houses infrared LEDs for night vision and has a 128.6° viewing angle. It weighs just 0.34 lbs., uses AC power and comes with a stand, which can sit on a tabletop or mount to a wall. The indoor Pulse camera lacks the water-resistant feature of the ADT outdoor camera, but can operate at temperatures between 32 F and 104 F.
The ADT Video Doorbell Camera fully integrates with your ADT alarm system and alerts you through the ADT Control App when someone comes to your door. The camera connects to your system using 802.11n, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity and features built-in motion detection and night vision technology.
The weather resistant device operates in extreme temperatures, from -4 F to 122 F, and captures 720p high definition video with a 180° field of view. The video doorbell comes equipped with two-way audio technology, which enables you to speak with visitors or couriers, even when you are away from home.
Besides deterring would-be burglars, the ADT Video Doorbell can help prevent porch thieves and alert you when friends or relatives drop by unexpectedly.
The free ADT Control App, available for Android and Apple devices, allows you to view live video from security cameras and receive instant alerts when someone opens a monitored door.
The app also integrates with smart home devices such as smart lights, thermostats, garage door systems and door locks. When integrated with smart home devices, you can set one-tap actions to open your garage door, disarm the alarm system and turn on exterior and interior lights before you pull into the driveway.
You can use the app from within your home or a remote location, making it easy to respond to unexpected emergencies. For example, if you leave home and suspect you left the oven on, you can disarm the alarm and unlock the front door to allow a neighbor into your home. Or, when an unexpected cold wave rolls in while you are on a weekend getaway, you can adjust your home’s heating system from afar to prevent frozen pipes.
Factors to Consider Before Buying ADT Security Cameras
While ADT cameras can pair with professional monitoring to watch over your home and alert you of triggered sensors, monitoring agents do not have access to your camera photos and video clips.
Power and wi-fi outages
In the event that your Wi-Fi network goes offline or power is out, you’ll likely not be able to see camera footage until power has been restored.
If you prefer a technician to install your security cameras, you’ll want to factor in the cost. ADT installation ranges from $99 up to $199 and depending on the equipment and home security system plan.
Additional costs and fees
While the standalone camera may seem less expensive, the features come with fees. Be sure to ask an agent about activation costs, monthly fees, monitoring costs and remote control costs during the contract period.
Privacy by Design
Almost every day we see news stories about privacy concerns. The increasing number of security cameras has many people worried that society is becoming a surveillance state. Choosing to install cameras in your home may lead you to ponder loss of privacy, but ADT assures customers its monitoring service maintains the highest standards. “ADT is a proponent of Security and Privacy by Design principles, and our systems limit ADT’s ability to access our residential customer’s video footage,” said Nakatani.
How to Connect Multiple ADT Security Cameras and Devices
ADT’s security system allows you to connect multiple security cameras and smart home devices to help protect your home. Depending on the package, you’ll be able to connect your favorite devices such as the Ring video doorbell, Nest Thermostat and other ADT compatible smart home gadgets. Keep in mind that ADT cameras are not standalone security cameras. They must be connected to the ADT security system to be used.
ADT Security Camera Storage
While most security camera providers offer limited video storage at an additional cost, ADT offers unlimited security camera storage to record as many 30-second motion-triggered camera clips as you’d like with their packages. Here’s the catch – clips can be no longer than 30 seconds. But, you’ll be able to have as many as you need. ADT advises saving any important clips to your ADT portal as a backup storage option.
ADT Security Camera Features to Shop For
All ADT outdoor security cameras are equipped with night vision to display clear camera footage using infrared LEDs. However, not all indoor security cameras can capture and record footage in the dark. Doublecheck that your ADT indoor camera is equipped with night vision to see footage in the dark.
Your viewing angle will vary depending on the security camera. The indoor camera allows you to see your home with a 90-degree field of view angle, while the outdoor camera has a 95-degree view to see your home’s vicinity. Make sure you understand how much of your home you’ll be able to see and if this field of view best fits your home.
When motion is triggered, you may want to have a crystal clear view of what’s happening around your home. ADT’s security camera allows you to switch between the Live Feed feature to show you live action of what’s happening and the recorded video from previous motion-triggered events.
To make the most of your ADT cameras, select an ADT package that allows you to control your security cameras anytime, anywhere. Whether you’re at work or home, you’ll be able to view live footage and motion-triggered camera activity using your smartphone.
